David Aberizk, President of Integrated Consultants, a Design and Rapid Prototype firm, in San Diego, California has submitted a Utility Patent. If adopted the patent’s approach will offer vehicle operators a new driving instrument. This new slowing feature directly engages drivers operational prospective to attain increased vehicle efficiency.
Empirical test data indicates that providing motivated drivers the option to initiate convenient-to-use energy recovery slowing options, independent of vehicle braking, will significantly increase motor or electric vehicle efficiency. A vehicle equipped with a driver anticipated slowing scheme better leverages a vehicle’s momentum to store electric energy. Passive regenerative systems do not take advantage of the driver’s anticipatory logic. Drivers that are empowered with the suggested instrumentation garner efficiency increases of a significant 3% to 6% for motor vehicles, and 6% to 9% for Electric Vehicles. Operator-Initiated-Slowing is being achieved with off-the-shelf technology regenerative hardware.… View the rest of the Press Release here

Combining HIM (Hardware Interface Modules) by ICI with DDC’s 1553 MicroAce and the power of Distrix Software, this Demo unit for Lockheed shows the flexibility of the HIM to provide Ethernet / 1553 / RS-232 connectivity in an cost effective and easily software configurable system.
SSC-Pacific’s MEMS accelerometer uses a novel electro-optical method of measuring acceleration, resulting in higher sensitivity and lower noise.
ICI developed an electronic control board to operate the accelerometer. The board first characterizes the unit, then, during operation, it runs the device and interprets the output. An on board FPGA allows dynamic configuration changes to the MEMS output interpretation. Custom mechanical mounting of the MEMS device assures signal integrity. A precision mounting plate assures rigidity and accurate axis references.
Integrated Consultants, Inc. developed several tools for the evaluation of MEMS devices. A set of circuit boards and with specialty mechanical interfaces allows dependable communications with MEMS devices under test.
Other test devices include test fixtures for data gathering relating to MEMS navigational devices and a configurable circuit simulator for MEMS characterization.
We at ICI - Integrated Consultants, Inc. are pleased to release this interoperability demonstration video. Click on the image to the right to watch the video.
ICI developed the electronic hardware and test infrastructure. Interoperability is made possible using the Distrix software suite from Spark Integration Technologies to allow disparate robotic hardware devices, sensors and other components to communicate seamlessly.
The video displays the result of a collaboration of technical disciplines across the gambit of high technology and demonstrates true autonomous interoperability.
Northrop Grumman's Firescout unmanned helicopter is programmed on the ground via a laptop computer.
ICI designed a chassis system to hold and protect the laptop while it is tethered to the UAV.
The cradle contains an electronics tray that processes the helicopter's signal before feeding it into the laptop.
Integrated Consultants, Inc. reverse engineered a damaged airplane bulkhead and delivered several replacement units.
ICI started with a damaged bulkhead and a number of conflicting and unorganized paper drawings. The bulkhead was reverse engineered into a 3D parametric model, and then this shape was compared to the supplied 2D prints. Inconsistencies were checked and resolved to create a final model of the desired part. This 3D file was used to create tool paths to run a CNC milling machine and produce the final parts.
The Reverie mega yacht, the 52nd largest private yacht in the world, underwent an extensive retrofit under Aereon Marine's care.
ICI took care of many different tasks for the retrofit.
A new, improved communications mast was designed and built. Deck cranes were analyzed to determine their weight ratings.
A new bridge with updated navigation instruments was designed and built. The entire yacht was modeled in 3D to aid in future work.
Aereon Marine's hinge supports watertight doors on the mega yacht Reverie.
ICI was given a broken hinge that had not been up to the task and has made significant improvements to the design.
Material choice has been improved and the link design has been changed for increased weight bearing capacity and slower wear.
Pelatron's M2C2 Advanced Prototype is a military command center's worth of electronics and communications equipment shoehorned into a HMMWV.
ICI documented the desired system configuration and designed the electronics packaging components and interface panels.
Geodetics ENPU is a high precision GPS receiver.
ICI worked on both the electrical and mechanical designs in parallel in order to achieve the compact form factor.
A special heat sink was designed around the CPU to keep the unit operating in hot climates.
Cubic's GATES lock is an electronically controlled padlock for intermodal shipping containers.
The armored case discourages brute force attacks.
Electronics monitor the lock's current state to detect and log physical attacks.
ICI's innovative hydraulic locking mechanism allows the lock to cinch up tight against the container bars and resist attempts to force the lock open yet uses little electrical power to operate and is cost effective to manufacture.
L3's Impulse Tube is used for testing the effects of a pressure wave on sample materials.
It is used to research more effective armor to protect personnel against the effects of a bomb blast.
The pressure wave is created by first charging the breach end of the tube with high pressure gas. As more gas is added the pressure increases until a plastic diaphragm retaining the gas in the breach ruptures.
The pressure wave travels down the tube and impacts the test article placed at the far end.
